This Shipping Policy outlines how shipping is handled for both repair services by mail and purchases of handmade accessories (such as oboe reeds, English horn bocals, oboe bells, and Stiletto Swabs).
1. Repairs by Mail
Customers who choose to ship instruments or reed-making equipment to J M Reinhardt LLC for repair are responsible for ensuring the safety and insurance of their shipments.
Customer Responsibilities
- Customers are 100% responsible for any loss or damage caused by the shipping service (both inbound and return shipments).
- Customers are strongly advised to insure all shipments unless they are certain their own insurance policy provides adequate coverage for shipping losses or damages.
- J M Reinhardt LLC will not file or manage claims with any shipping service for lost or damaged instruments.
- Customers are responsible for all shipping costs, including insurance, for both sending and return shipments.
Shipping Method
- All return shipments from J M Reinhardt LLC are sent via USPS Priority Mail, Signature Required.
- Other carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.) are not used for outbound shipments, though customers may use any carrier of their choice for inbound shipments.
2. Reeds, Bells, Bocals, Stiletto Swabs & Other accessories
All reeds, bocals, bells and swabs are handmade to order and shipped directly to the customer.
Outbound Shipments
- J M Reinhardt LLC assumes full responsibility for outbound shipments.
- In the event an order is lost or damaged during shipment, it will be replaced at no cost to the customer.
Returns
- If a customer needs to return an item, the customer is responsible for ensuring it arrives safely.
- J M Reinhardt LLC is not liable for returns that are lost, misaddressed, or damaged due to inadequate packaging or improper labeling.
- It is strongly recommended that customers package returns securely and use a tracked, insured shipping service.
3. Pre-Shipment Checklist for Repairs
Before sending your instrument or reed-making equipment for repair, please review these steps to help ensure safe transit:
- Insurance: Insure your package for its full replacement value unless your own policy covers shipping losses. J M Reinhardt LLC cannot assume responsibility or file carrier claims.
- Packaging: Pack the instrument securely in its case and place it inside a sturdy outer box with padding on all sides. Avoid loose or shifting material.
- Shipping Method: You may use any carrier for inbound shipments (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.). All return shipments will be sent via USPS Priority Mail with Signature Required.
- Labeling: Confirm that all labels are legible and accurate. Include your full contact information inside the box in case exterior labels are damaged.
- Tracking: Send your tracking number once shipped so arrival can be confirmed.
Taking these precautions helps protect your instrument and ensures prompt attention once it arrives.
4. Purchases of Used Oboes and Reed-Making Machines
J M Reinhardt LLC occasionally offers used oboes, English horns, and reed-making machinery for sale, including items sold on consignment. These items are often high-value, individually unique, and may include a limited trial or “approval” period as outlined below.
a. Shipping and Insurance
- All instruments and machines are shipped fully insured for their sale value unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.
- The buyer is responsible for all shipping costs, including insurance, unless explicitly stated otherwise on the invoice.
- All shipments require a signature upon delivery.
- Once an instrument or machine has been delivered and signed for, ownership and liability transfer to the buyer, subject to the 7-day approval period described below.
- J M Reinhardt LLC is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage occurring after confirmed delivery.
b. 7-Day Approval Period
- Buyers are granted a 7-day approval period beginning on the date of confirmed delivery.
- During this time, the buyer may evaluate the instrument or machine under normal playing or operating conditions.
- If the buyer wishes to return the item for any reason, they must notify J M Reinhardt LLC in writing (email is acceptable) before the end of the 7th day following delivery.
- Returned items must be shipped back fully insured and in the same condition as received, using the same level of packaging protection.
- The buyer is responsible for return shipping and insurance.
- Upon safe return and inspection, a refund will be issued less any original shipping and insurance charges.
- Damage or material alteration during the trial period may result in a repair or depreciation charge at the discretion of J M Reinhardt LLC.
c. Condition and Representation

- Unless otherwise stated, all used and consignment items are sold “as-is.”
- Natural wear or minor variations consistent with prior use should be expected.
- Prospective buyers are encouraged to request detailed photographs, videos, or live demonstrations before purchase.
d. Consignment Items
- For consignment sales, J M Reinhardt LLC acts solely as an agent between buyer and seller.
- The consignor retains ownership until payment is received in full and the approval period (if applicable) has concluded.
- Any warranties, service obligations, or representations beyond this policy are the responsibility of the consignor unless otherwise stated in writing.
