Consignment Policy

This policy governs the consignment of oboes, reed-making machines, and related equipment (“Consignment Items”) offered for sale through J M Reinhardt LLC.

Commission Structure

A commission is charged on the final sale price of any Consignment Item (exclusive of shipping charges, taxes, or processing fees). Commission rates are applied as follows:

  • For items sold at or below $5,000:
A commission of 20% is applied to the full sale price.
  • For items sold above $5,000:
    • The first $5,000 is charged at 20%
    • The portion of the sale price from $5,001–$10,000 is charged at 15%
    • Any portion of the sale price above $10,000 is charged at 10%

Repairs and Preparation

To ensure fair market value and the best chance of sale, necessary repairs, adjustments, and/or cleaning may be performed at the discretion of J M Reinhardt LLC.

  • Repair costs are deducted from the seller’s proceeds when the item sells; OR
  • If the client requests the item returned unsold, all repair charges must be paid in full before the item is shipped back.

No cosmetic or optional work will be performed without the client’s approval.

Shipping and Insurance

  • The consignor (client) is responsible for all inbound and return shipping charges, including any insurance they choose to add.
  • Strongly Recommended: Consignors are encouraged to fully insure the item when shipping it to J M Reinhardt LLC. Lack of insurance means the consignor accepts full responsibility for any loss or damage in transit.
  • If the item sells, the purchaser is responsible for all shipping and insurance costs.
These charges are not included in the sale price used to calculate commission.

Pricing and Adjustment

  • All pricing is set in consultation with the consignor; however, final pricing and reasonable adjustments are made at the discretion of J M Reinhardt LLC to facilitate sale.
  • Optional minimum price (reserve) arrangements may be discussed, but cannot guarantee a sale.

Payment of Proceeds

  • Consignor payouts are issued within 14 business days after the buyer’s payment has fully cleared and any applicable return period has expired.

Ownership and Liability

  • The consignor acknowledges they are the legal owner of the item until it is sold.
  • J M Reinhardt LLC is not responsible for loss or damage caused by carrier services, natural disaster, or theft outside reasonable control.
Use of inbound shipping insurance is strongly encouraged for this reason.

Withdrawal of Consigned Items

  • The consignor may request return of the item at any time, provided any outstanding repair fees are paid first.
  • If an item is actively listed or currently being tried by a prospective buyer, return shipment may be delayed until the trial is completed.

Trial Periods

Certain buyers may receive a trial period before purchase.

  • During a trial, buyers assume responsibility for accidental damage caused by neglect, misuse, or unauthorized repairs.
  • Trial periods do not change the consignor’s obligations under this agreement.
