Loree English horn AG16

Out of stock

This classic A-series Loree English Horn was made in the early 1930s. It is in excellent playing condition and plays with a beautifully sweet, lyrical sound. These pre-war English horns represent some of the finest work by Loree to date, featuring truly handmade keywork with very thick, hand burnished silver plating. Some prominent professionals even today swear by A-series English horns.

The keywork is as original aside from an added left-F key. The lower joint keywork is slightly unusual in that it features a ring-key with a covered, vented tonehole for the middle finger, which was presumably done in order to offer improved intonation without sacrificing response on high C-sharp and D. While modern English horns no longer utilize this system, it is comfortable under the fingers and takes little getting used to. A topjoint crack was expertly repaired with pins and does not go through to the bore. It has been set up with all cork pads, except for the two low note toneholes, which are skin/felt.

This English horn comes in a FEL/Orly case and is equipped with a Dallas/Lickman #7 (equivalent to a standard #2) bocal in unplated brass.
