Loree John de Lancie “Special Model” oboe

Out of stock

This B-series Loree is from the mid 1960’s and is a rare “Special Model.” Made to the specifications of John de Lancie, (then-principal oboist of the Philadelphia Orchestra,) it features significant changes to the bottom joint tonehole placements and bore, as well as a unique bell bore design compared with the standard b-series. It also omits the forked F-resonance key and low B-flat resonance key, the philosophy being that these extra toneholes negatively impact tone and response.

The “Special Model” is extremely rare and can be considered the “holy grail” of vintage Lorees, with several prominent oboists utilizing them in their careers, often collecting standard model B-series’ in order to source additional topjoints when necessary. This system works well, as all of the DeLancie design changes are in the bottom joint and bell.

Compared with a typical b-series, this oboe has a darker, more penetrating and projecting tone and is especially well suited to classic Philadelphia school playing.

This oboe has just been through the repair shop and is in excellent playing condition. There are just a few small areas of silver plating wear. A topjoint crack has been well repaired with pins and tonehole bushings. This crack does NOT go through to the bore. It has been set up with all cork pads (except for two felt pads on the Low B and B-flat.)
